Guwahati: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that 'Tourist Circuit' trains will now run for tourists in the Northeast which will pass through all the major places of the region.
According to an official statement issued by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Vaishnav visited Guwahati on Tuesday, where he asserted that a study is underway to increase rail connectivity in the north-eastern states.
Vaishnav said that it has been the endeavour of the Railways to promote the rich heritage of the Northeast and present its beautiful culture to the whole world. He said that five 'Vistadome' services have already been started with the aim of promoting tourism in the region.
He said that studies are being done to lay out strategic railway lines to bring out the beauty of the Northeast and to introduce trains like Intercity and Jan Shatabdi Express.
He further asserted that Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated this year for the ongoing railway projects in northeast.
Vaishnav, who also holds the Ministries of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology said that work is going on to provide high speed internet service in the entire area.
"A different approach has been used for 10 GB internet connectivity from Coxbazar International Landing Station (Bangladesh) to Agartala through BSNL. The experiment has been very successful and now we will take it forward," he added.
The Minister further said that efforts are on to equip every village in the Northeast with digital telecom connectivity.
"Scientific survey and GIS (Geographical Information System) mapping is being done in every village to identify the places for making telecom connectivity," he said.
