UP doctor attempts to rape COVID-19 patient in Aligarh hospital, arrested

Guwahati: In a shocking development, an off duty doctor in at the Aligarh Hospital in Uttar Pradesh (UP) attempted to rape a COVID-19 patient not once, but twice.

According to reports, the 28-year-old patient was admitted to the DDU hospital in Aligarh after she was tested corona positive in Ghaziabad town. The doctor, who was not on duty, attempted to rape the woman not once but twice at night. According to a complaint filed with the police, the UP doctor, who was not on duty, entered the ward and tried to rape the woman twice at night.

A case of rape under section 376 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been filed based on the victim's testimony and the accused doctor has been arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police. Dr. AB Singh, the CMS of the DDU hospital has said that the matter came to the notice of the hospital authorities after the girl filed a complaint. The girl is a resident of Aligarh. Singh further informed that the police are probing the matteR.

Meanwhile, the Aligarh District Magistrate has confirmed the rape attempt has been made and police have filed an FIR. Chandra Bhushan Singh, the Deputy Magistrate of Aligarh has said that molestation and rape attempts have been made. he further added that the police have probed the case and the "incident has been found to be true." The DM confirmed that an FIR was filed based on which the UP doctor was arrested by men in uniform.
