UP Government hands over Hathras gang-rape case to CBI

Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi visit family of the deceased in Hathras, vowed to ensure justice to the family.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday said that the alleged rape and murder of the 19-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras is now to be investigated by the CBI.

The UP Chief Minister's office on Saturday tweeted "Chief Minister @myogiadityanath Ji has ordered the CBI to conduct a probe into the entire Hathras case.''

The order was handed to the CBI on a day when Congress top leaders Rahul Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached family of the victim in Hathras on Saturday.

''No force can silence us'' said Rahul, after the meeting and vowed to keep up the pressure on the government till the family gets justice.

''We will be there to ensure justice is served wherever something wrong happens. No one can stop us from doing that'' asserted Priyanka Gandhi.

Apart from Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, top officials from the UP government and police - DGP HC Awasthy and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi also went to Hathras to speak to the family.
