Guwahati: Amid the ongoing pandemic scenario, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has made provisions allowing the candidates to change their centres for the upcoming civil services preliminary examination, scheduled on October 4.
The UPSC said in a statement that this decision has been taken keeping in view the large number of candidates who are scheduled to appear for the exam (including the Indian Forest Service (preliminary) examination, 2020) and requests from the candidates asking to be given an opportunity to change their centres. Now, they will be given an opportunity to submit their revised choice of centre.
Furthermore, the candidates will also have the option to change the centers for the civil services (main) examination, 2020, and the Indian Forest Service (main) examination, 2020.
The Commission in its notice said that the option of changing the centre will be operational in two phases on the official website https://upsconline.nic.in. The phases will be on: 7th-13th July, 2020 (6 PM) and 20th-24th July, 2020 (6 PM).
The UPSC in its statement advised candidates to visit the website and submit their choices of centers of the above examination if required, adding that the request for change of centre will be considered against the enhanced capacity intimated by the centers for accommodating additional candidates.
The requests for the change in centers will be considered based on first-apply-first-allot basis, and once the capacity of a particular centre is attained, the same will be frozen. If a candidate doesn't get the option to appear the exam from the centre of his choosing, he will be required to choose a centre from the remaining ones.
Originally, the civil services preliminary examination 2020 was scheduled to be held on May 31, but it had to be postponed to October 4, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
At the same time, the UPSC has also decided to make a withdrawal window' available to the candidates on the Commission's website during the period from 1st-8th August, 2020 which will allow them to withdraw their application from the test.
