Uttar Pradesh: Police Insert Stick In Man's Genitals, Give Electric Shocks; 5 Cops Booked

A family member, while speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Rehan's condition started to deteriorate on Friday and he was taken to a hospital in Bulandshahr.

Lucknow: Five police personnel were suspended and booked on Saturday for allegedly torturing a 20-year-old man in custody in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.

The victim has been identified as Rehan, who was detained by the police on suspicion of cattle theft on May 2.

His family had earlier accused the police of brutally assaulting him by shoving a wooden stick inside his genitals and repeatedly giving him electric shocks while he was in their custody.

In their complaint, Rehan's family also accused the police of keeping him under their custody for several hours and further alleged that he was released on the same day after a bribe of Rs. 5000 was paid to the cops.

Budaun additional superintendent of police (city) Praveen Singh Chauhan said the victim's family met the senior superintendent of police O P Singh, after which an investigation was ordered into the incident.

Chauhan said that Dataganj circle officer Prem Kumar Thapa was asked to investigate the case and he submitted his report on Saturday, saying that the allegations of the family were found to be true.

Chauhan added that an FIR under relevant sections for illegal confinement and torturing of the Indian Penal Code under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused.

Rehan, who is a part-time vegetable vendor, is suffering from repeated seizures due to the alleged assault, a doctor treating him said on condition of anonymity.
