Dehradun: In a bid to revive its tourism sector and recover from the COVID-19 crisis, Uttarakhand Government has come up with an amazing initiative called 'Tourist Incentive Coupon'. The Government is giving tourists a perfect opportunity to explore the picturesque hill station and will offer Rs.1000 for their accommodation.
Further, the tourists who do not wish to avail this offer, they can opt for a 25% discount on their booking in Dehradun, Nainital, Mussoorie or any other tourist destination of their choice in the State.
For the Himalayan State of Uttarakhand, tourism is the major source of revenue and draws a huge number of tourists from across the country as well as from foreign countries every year. However, due to the virus outbreak, the economy has been suffering. So, to restore the tourism sector, the Government is drawing out innovative activities to attract tourists and reshape the economy through it.
Talking about the pilot project, Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said that the tourists will be given the discount coupon while registering themselves on the government portal under tourist category. They can enable the coupon during their stay in either a hotel or any homestay in the tourist spots of the State.
Moreover, due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country, Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve was also shut.
The government has decided to refund travelers who had already made advance bookings. A sum total of Rs.2 crore will be returned to travelers.
