Vadodara: Vadodara police have set a unique example while the Road Transport Office of the city in Gujarat cracks down. With the school vans and auto-rickshaws entering the second day in Vadodara, the city police have come out with a unique way of ferrying kids to schools so that the students do not have to miss their schools and get hampered in their studies.
The Vadodara traffic police and Vadodara police, unlike others, could be seen ferrying the school students in their motorcycles and PCR vans. This sight of the city police and traffic police carrying children to schools is rare and one-of-a-kind that needs to be followed and learned by the police of other Indian cities as well.
Vadodara police engaged a total of 46 police motorcycles, 21 PCR vans and 9 official Boleros on Wednesday so that school students can reach their schools on time. This way, over 250 students were helped in reaching their schools located in various parts of the city.
This effort of the Vadodara police is commendable that they could think of coming for the rescue of the needy children whose parents cannot afford to drop their children at school by hiring private vehicles.
The reason behind the crackdown of the school students carrying vehicles is that the other day three students fell off a moving school van in Ahmedabad. A total of 22 children were being carried by the vehicle and the jam-packed condition led the door not to be closed properly. This made the RTO and the traffic police to detain 3 buses, 12 auto rickshaws and 16 vans on Tuesday. Following this, the school vans and other student carrying vehicles went on a strike.
After two PILs in High Court, a maximum of 14 students was allowed to travel in a van, while an auto rickshaw was allowed to carry six students. the vehicles who disobeyed this norm were being detained by the police and RTO.
