Veteran Bollywood actor Jagdeep passes away at 81

Guwahati: Veteran Bollywood actor Jagdeep passed away owing to age-related issues on Wednesday in Mumbai, Maharastra. He was 81.

Actor Nasirr Khan confirmed the news to the sources. Born on March 29, 1939 as Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri in Amritsar, Jagdeep acted in over 400 films and is perhaps best known for his role as Soorma Bhopali in the mega blockbuster 'Sholay'.

The Actor's catchphrase in the film "Mera naam Soorma Bhopali aise hi nahin hai" is still recalled fondly by fans. He's also known for playing Salman Khan's father in Rajkumar Santoshi's "Andaaz Apna Apna" (1994), which has attained cult status in recent years.

Jagdeep kickstarted his career as a child artiste in BR Chopra's 1951 release, "Afsana", starring Ashok Kumar, Veena, and Pran and also acted in a number of horror films made by the Ramsay Brothers. IIFA honored him with Lifetime Achievement Award.

He is survived by two sons -- actor Javed Jaaferi and film-maker Naved Jaaferi. It is to be mentioned that his last-released film is "Masti Nahi Sasti" in 2017.
