Ranchi: A gruesome incident has been reported in Jharkand's Dhanbad where a Muslim man was assaulted, forced to chant the slogan 'Jai Shree Slogan' and lick his own spit allegedly by workers belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
A video that went viral has captured this condemnable incident and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren took to his official Twitter handle to condemn this violent act.
He has asked the district officials to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against the culprits.
This incident took place at the site of a protest conducted by BJP workers and supporters. The agitators were protesting against the alleged lapse in security of Prime Minister Modi in Punjab earlier this week.
Reportedly, the BJP's Dhanbad MLA and MP were also present in the protest.
According to reports, the victim has been identified as 32-year-old Zeeshan Khan.
The police has arrested one person in connection with the incident till now and have assured that more arrests will be made as the investigation proceeds.
This horrific incident unraveled when Zeeshan was reportedly passing by the protest site and passed a comment against the state president of the BJP's Jharkhand Unit Deepak Prakash as a result of which a violent mob assaulted him.
Rehan Khan, the victim's brother, has lodged a complaint after which an FIR has been filed. Rehan has also informed that his brother Zeeshan has been undergoing treatment for a mental illness since 2012.
It has been reported that local Congress leaders have condemned this incident. Shamsher Alam, the Dhanbad's state executive committee member of the Congress, has told the Telegraph newspaper that he helped Rehan Khan file an FIR after he got to know about the incident.
The Congress leader also added that such an act of violence against a person of a minority community must not go unpunished and he further went on to add that Congress will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion thereby delivering justice.
India has witnessed a series of violent mob lynchings of this magnitude, or even more, under the current ruling dispensation and as a result, it has drawn worldwide condemnation from the international community and Human Rights organizations.
