GUWAHATI: Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned that the continuous efforts of the Indian prime minister are responsible for the good performance of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance in the Northeastern region of the country. He went on to add that the continued focus and constant hard work have helped the party not only win votes but also the hearts of the people of the region.

It is important to note that the Bharatiya Janata Party has been a part of the coalition in all three states of Northeast India where elections were conducted recently. Himanta Biswa Sarma is also the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance.

"Certain quarters allege that BJP's rise in the northeast was a result of defections or ‘arm-twisting’. This is nothing but a narrative peddled by a lazy and frustrated gang," mentioned Himanta Biswa Sarma.

"There has been no PM before Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji who has so passionately worked on bringing the North East into the consciousness of the national mainstream” and "OUTCOME: Not once but TWICE, BJP/NDA won the mandate of all NE States in both Assembly & Lok Sabha polls through POPULAR VOTE," he added over Twitter.

Narendra Modi replied to his tweets and said, “We will continue working with full vigour and fulfil the development needs of the Northeast."

Pointing out to the visits of Narendra Modi to the region he said that the prime minister has visited the region more than 50 times which is more than the visits of all the previous prime ministers of the country who came to power between 1947 and 2014.

"IMPACT: AFSPA withdrawn from many areas without compromising on security, civilian casualties down by 90%, peace deals signed & inter-state boundary issues on verge of resolution," the Assam CM added.
