NEW DELHI: Manish Sisodia, a founding member of Aam Aadmi who was arrested, released a message from the Tihar prison in Delhi, saying that while being imprisoned may provide challenges for him, it won't break his spirit.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained Sisodia on February 26 in relation to allegations of corruption in the creation and execution of the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy for 2021–2022.

He was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday.

"Saheb, even if you imprison me, you won't be able to break my spirit. The independence warriors were also persecuted by the British authorities, but they did not lose spirit”, Manish Sisodia's message from behind bars, read an AAP leader's official Twitter account tweet in Hindi.

In the excise policy case, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on Friday ordered Sisodia to be held in ED custody until March 17. He is being held in detention for a week so that he can undergo "detailed and prolonged interrogation and confrontations," according to the court.

Manish Sisodia's senior attorney, Dayan Krishnan, argued against the ED's request for Sisodia to be held in custody for 10 days at the hearing. The agency claimed that it is asking for ten days of Sisodia's detention in order to question him about his tactics and confront other people who have been summoned.

Sisodia had purchased SIM cards and cell phones in other people's names, the ED told the court. Sisodia was detained for 14 days in judicial prison on March 6 after being detained by the CBI on February 26 in connection with the liquor policy case.

Earlier in the case, the ED conducted another arrest and detained Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai.
