Awareness meeting on witch-hunting at Udalguri

UDALGURI, Jan 6: The Udalguri district legal service authority organized a public awareness meeting against witch hunting at Shinggaon ME School premise on Tuesday. The meeting was conducted by Pravin Basumatary.  Jayanta Brahma, senior advocate of Udalguri, apprised the local people about the various provisions of IPC sections against witch hunting and he also urged the people to end the practice of witch hunting. The meeting was also addressed by Assistant Commissioner Ramanuz Hazarika, SDJM AJ Baishya, Officer-in-Charge of Udalguri Police Station and local prominent citizens Samar Sing Basumatary and Michael Basumatary. The meeting was also attended by Assistant Session Judge Roshan Lal. A case of witch craft was detected in that village recently and taking immediate action, ABSU had tackled the situation. From that point of view, the awareness meeting against such beliefs was a significant development in that area.
