Silchar, Dec 26: Purbachal, Separate Barak Demand Committee (SBDC), Silchar has been calling for separate Barak since March 24, 2014. The movement for separate Barak as state has been started with the formation of SBDC. “Our movement has always been non-violent and we would like to adhere to the same till we reach our goal separating a combined state of Barak, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao,” said Shuvadip Datta, general secretary, SBDC, at a press meet held at the office of the Committee at Club Road today.

Shuvadip Datta further said that separate representation has been submitted to the PS of the Chief Executive Member of Dima Hasao, Niranjan Hojai, Executive Member, Dima Hasao, Nirmal Langthasa of Dima Hasao, Jayanta Rongpei and Tuliram Ronginghung, Chief Executive Member, Diphu, MLA Bidya Singh Anleng and MP Biren Singh. “All of them have agreed and gave the green sigl to move ahead with the demand for separate Barak. In this regard, we are planning to organize a mass convention with all the MPs, and MLAs so that a fil decision could be taken,” Datta added to say. It should be mentioned here that Jayanta Rongpei was out of station on the day of submission of the memorandum. Yet, he messaged that he will be there with the Committee against all odds.

“Owing to the present day political scerio of the State, it is high time that a unified voice should be raised so that the dream of separate Barak no longer remains a dream,” added the general secretary. He said, “I think Barak Valley alone should demand for a separate Union Territory or State, the demand should be placed jointly for a single state in combition of Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and Barak Valley. Dima Hasao region is a proof of coexistence, solidarity and prosperity. Our history cannot be ignored shunning Cachari kings of Dima Hasao origin.” Shuvadip Datta further stated that since the British annexation this region has been under one Commissioner and it is still prevailing.
