MARGHERITA, March 25: The Margherita Regiol Committee of the All Assam Barua Minority Youth Association, the youth wing of Federation of Barua Buddhists Welfare Association of Assam, was formed on Wednesday at Margherita Buddha Vihara premises.

Sibu Talukder, general secretary of Federation of Barua Buddhists Welfare Association of Assam, said that the Association was formed in the year 1983. “But even today the Barua Buddhist community is one of the most deprived communities of Assam. We are the indigenous people of the State but the Assam Government does not give importance to us as Barua Buddhists are very few in number. We are only remembered during election time for votes,” said Talukdar.

A 21-member committee was formed with chief advisor Pranoy Kumar Barua, president Samiran Barua, general secretary Ashok Barua and treasurer Manisha Baruah.

Suren Barua, adivsor of Federation of Barua Buddhists Welfare Association of Assam said that Barua Buddhists were considered as tribes in West Bengal and Tripura so in Assam too they should be declared as a tribe.
