MANGALDAI, Feb 3: A danseuse of repute of Assam, Dr Lima Das took part in the Nishagandhi Festival organized by the Department of Tourism of Kerela at Kakakkunnu in Thiruvanthapuram recently and received a lot of appreciation for her excellent performance of Xattriya dance.
The State Government of Kerela has been organizing the Nishagandhi Festival as an exclusive tribute to Indian dance. The festival started with this year’s Padmashree award recipient Aru Mohanty’s Odissi group followed by the performances by some of the icons of Indian classical dance like Padmashree recipient Geeta Chandran (Bharattyam), Dr Nee Prasad (Mohiniattam), Srimayi Vempatti (Kuchipudi), Vidha Lal and Abhimanyu Lal (Kathak), Sujata Mohapatra (Odissi) and Padmashree recipient Darsha Jhaveri (Manipuri).
Following a brief introduction to the dance form, Dr Das started her performance with Saali Nritya and an abhiya piece ‘Krish-Kubja Sangbad’ depicting the story of Kubja from the Bhagawat Pura choreographed by Guru Nrityacharya Jatin Goswami. This was followed by two other choreography pieces Draupadi and Ekalavya from the Mahabharata, also choreographed by Padmashree and Sangeet tak award recipient Nrityacharya Jatin Goswami. Dr Limka Das took part in the festival along with her team of musicians comprising of Dhrubajyoti Barua on vocals, Kusha Mahanta on the khol, Prasan Barua on the flute, Dwipendra Sarma on the violin and Anupjyoti Bhuyan on the cymbals. The audience appreciated the performance with a huge round of applause.
Dr Lima Das is the daughter of Dr. Bhubaneswar Das and this year’s recipient of ‘Shilpi Bota’ Mridula Das and is currently working as Reader in the Regiol Dental College, Guwahati.
