GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), Feb 10: The devotees thronging the 87th session of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha (SSS) took part in a mass sigture campaign carried out by the Mod Mukta Asom Dabi Samiti to demand a stop on alcohol sale in Assam. More than 1.50 lakh people signed against alcohol consumption and sale in Assam.
The members of Mod Mukta Asom Dabi Samiti campaigned during the four-day long programme by distributing leaflets and taking sigtures against alcohol sale and to make Assam an alcohol-free State. In this process, the members of the organization were able to collect more than 1.5 lakh sigtures.
The president of Mod Mukta Asom Dabi Samiti, Probin Das said that, “We are collecting sigtures of the people of Assam in various districts. We will submit more than 10 lakh sigtures to the Government of Assam demanding Assam to be made alcohol-free.”
He also said that the chief secretary and Padadhikar of SSS, Prafulla Chandra Bora and Bhabendra th Deka respectively assured them that they would include this demand in the agenda of the Sangha. Besides, noted educationists, intellectuals and citizens of Assam also put their sigture against alcohol sale in Assam. The Mod Mukta Assam Dabi Samiti will force the Sarbanda Sonowal-led Assam Government to make Assam an alcohol-free State.
