Dolo pleads for fincial package to modernize police

Itagar, June 2: Aruchal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Kameng Dolo has pleaded the Centre to grant 800 crore to the state in order to meet up the requirement of manpower and other logistic support to the police department for effective magement of law and order.

Speaking at the interactive session with an inter-ministerial team from Niti Aayog here on Tuesday Dolo, who also holds the Home portfolio, emphasized on effective law and order system in the state, an official report said here today.

“For the overall development and growth of the economy of the state, we have to ensure that there is smooth, peaceful, effective law and order system so as to woo private investors,” he pointed out.

Dolo advocated that in order to have a very sound and effective law and order system in the state, the Centre needs to provide adequate funds and fill up the gap funding whenever required since the state has a very weak interl resource base.

Driving his points home, the deputy chief minister added that in order to tackle and address the issue of insurgency problem, bandh calls and illegal extraction of river bed materials and forest products, the strengthening of police forces is the need of the hour.

“It is very important to have modern, latest and up to date communication networks, arms and ammunitions, digital networks and infrastructural facilities like modern police stations, bachelor barracks, quarters,  adequate manpower, outposts and housing facilities to almost all the police personnel working in the state”, Dolo quipped.

Giving a detailed account of the existing manpower as well as infrastructures available with the home department, Dolo urged the Niti Aayog to extend fincial support for the creation of another 401 posts of women police and twenty women police stations across the state to deal with crimes against women.

He also placed demands for creation of additiol 7 IRB battalions in the state to meet up security arrangement of around 130 hydro power projects, tiol Highways and several tiol importance installations going on in the state.

Vetting for creation of posts like SPs and IGs (interl security, intelligence, traffic, fire service and emergency), Dolo said that due to non existence of such posts, the willful adventurous activities of UG militants and intelligence wings of neighbouring countries like Chi, Bangladesh and Myanmar could not be countered effectively.

Expressing his desire to have “state of art” police training centre in the state, Dolo informed the visiting team about the unfortute firing incident in Tawang which he said, could have been averted provided the state police have been well trained in dealing sensitive and effective policing.

“In absence of high end training specialization, our jawans are not well trained up with modern challenges of policing”, Dolo said while assuring to provide land free of cost, if the Centre agrees to provide adequate funds for establishment of such training centers.

The deputy chief minister further said that the tourism potential of the state could be exploited optimally only if there was a congenial atmosphere.

“The state can be a commercial hub for the entire Northeast region in the field of agricultural and horticultural produces if its potentials are harnessed to the optimum level,” the deputy chief minister suggested adding, exploitation of hydro potential is the need of hour for socio-economic and cultural development of the state, the report added.
