Itagar, Dec 8: A fact finding team constituted by East Kameng DC and East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organization(EKSWCO), led by its vice chairman Dahey Sangno, inspected the power house, tanks and the entire 4 km-long power channel of 3-mw Pacha Hydro-electric project.

After the inspection, the team observed that only one of the two turbines installed at the power house is functiol, thereby generating only half of its capacity. The defunct turbine was operatiol for only 20 days in the last two years and is still awaiting repair.

The team also observed that the bed of the entire stretch of power channel has worn out and reinforcement exposed leading to leakages at several points. Besides, seepage holes were found at the both sides of the channel wall at various locations.

At certain locations, the wall on valley side had precariously tilted at the joints. The power channel height has been fiddled at Pabua by the PMGSY road contractor during construction of a culvert, posing a risk of flooding of the nearby habitation, the team observed.

A meeting was also held with the villagers of Donigoan and Pabua at the intake point in which the villagers put forth their grievances like erection of fencing along the channel to prevent falling of cattle and slabs at certain points for ease of crossing the channel.

Further, EKSWCO had requested the department of hydro power to prepare a realistic estimate for maintence of the power channel.
