Dhekiajuli, July 11: A meeting called by Dhekiajuli Municipality Board for holding a lottery for allotting 45 shopping outlets of Rabindra Bhavan to the security depositor here could not conclude on Monday.

It is alleged by the Dhekiajuli Small Business Association that on August 11, 2014, the then  in-charge of Dhekiajuli Municipality Board  called for proposal from local businessmen for allotment of 49  shopping outlets in the Rabindra Bhavan campus. But at the same time it is alleged that the then Circle Officer, Jayanta Sarkar,  who was also the in-charge of Dhekiajuli  Municipality Board, allotted four of the 49 shopping outlets to four people through secret dealings.

From that day onwards, the businessmen of Dhekiajuli started agitation against Jayanta Sarkar for his alleged malpractice in the process of allotment of shopping outlets. Meanwhile, the local  small businessmen who deposited Rs 40,000  as security deposit  to the municipality board in August, 2014 for getting allotment of shopping outlets,  claimed that  their agitation would continue unless and until  Jayanta Sarkar, the present Circle  Officer of Dhekiajuli revenue circle, is punished for his alleged corruption in the Rabindra Bhavan, Dhekiajuli Municipality Board shopping outlet allotment process  and demanded that the State Government should take appropriate action against this  ‘corrupt’ officer.

They claimed that their allegation was valid as lottery would be held for 45 outlets out of 49 shopping outlets. So it is clear that there must have been some secret dealing  for  the remaining four shopping outlets  by the  then in-charge of Dhekiajuli Municipality Board and present Circle Officer, Jayanta Sarkar.
