NIT Silchar holds 14th convocation

 SILCHAR, May 14: The 14th convocation of tiol Institute of Technology, Silchar was held in the premises of New Auditorium, Sports Complex of the premier institution, here today. It was a proud day for the Institute since about 773 students were conferred with their degrees in Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology, Master of Science, Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Philosophy in various disciplines. Eight medal winners were honoured and 25 candidates were conferred with their Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

 tiol Institute of Technology, Silchar has been placed at 65th position among the top 100 institutes/universities. The list had been prepared by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India through tiol Institutiol Ranking Framework 2016. The Institute has secured 18th position among all the NITs, and 4th position in the North Eastern region, after IIT Guwahati, NIT Meghalaya and NIT Agartala.

 For the current batch, 2015-16, till the month of April, 64 companies of both core and software have visited NIT, Silchar. This year, 502 jobs have been offered to the students of this Institute and 331 students have been placed so far. This is indeed a matter of pride that big industry players like IBM, TCS, OIL, HPCL, ITC ltd., Vodafone, Ericsson, Sony and others have offered jobs to the students. The highest package offered is Rs.11.5 lakhs per annum and average package offered is Rs.4.48 lakhs per annum.

 The Convocation was graced by the presence of Professor Ajoy Kumar Ray, Director, Indian Institute of Engineering Science, Shibpur, who was the chief guest on the occasion, Dr. Rashed Ghulam Syed, Director, Ghalib University and Hospital, Afghanistan, as the guest of honour and Professor Nishikant Viyak Deshpande, Director and Chairman, Board of Governors, tiol Institute of Technology, Silchar. The Convocation started with the academic procession followed by the singing of the tiol tiol Anthem and felicitation of the chief guest, the guest of honour and the Chairman.
