NPP clarifies on North Shillong candidate

SHILLONG, Nov 26: tiol People’s Party (NPP) North Shillong constituency president Gordon Kharchandy on Sunday has clarified Don War of Mission Compound, Shillong has no association with the party.

“We have received reliable information that a certain person Don War is claiming to be a member of the party and is canvassing and projecting himself as NPP candidate from North Shillong in the ensuing general elections to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly 2018,” Kharchandy said.

He said War has not approached the constituency committee nor has he enrolled himself as a member from the 17 North Shillong Constituency Committee as per the provisions of the party constitution that stipulates that interl party democracy should be maintained as directed by the rules and regulations of the Election Commission of India.

He said, “Therefore, outsiders or individuals claiming to be members without following the party constitution cannot be accepted.”

Kharchandy said the party wants to inform everyone that only one person has applied for a ticket from North Shillong constituency.

“Our committee has forwarded only the me of Erwin K Syiem Sutnga for nomition as the official candidate of the party to the State Election Committee and no other me,” he said.

Informing that the committee was the first to form the NPP in the city, he said, “We have worked hard to popularise the party amongst the people by taking up many important issues that will help us win this seat.”

He added, “We are awaiting the decision of the State Election Committee in the matter of allotting the party ticket to Erwin K Syiem Sutnga.”
