Post Office Passport Seva Kendra iugurated

Dibrugarh, March 2: The third Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) of Assam was iugurated here recently by Dibrugarh MP, Rameshwar Teli. While iugurating the POPSK at the Graham Bazar Post Office premises, Teli said that the effort was a part of the initiative being taken by the Ministry of Exterl Affairs and Department of Posts to utilize the Head Post Offices and post offices of the country as POPSK. He added that the POPSK would bring an end to the protracted process the people of the region were getting subjected to while applying for passports. Now, they could file applications in their own district, Teli mentioned.

While informing that a similar POPSK would also be iugurated in Tinsukia soon, the MP, in the same breadth said that an application had also been tendered to the centre regarding opening of an office for VISA application in Guwahati. The MLAs, Prashanta Phukan and Ritupar Baruah, present on the occasion said that the POPSK would benefit the people of the district to a great degree. In his speech, Regiol Passport Officer Labsang Tsering said that for the benefit of public, a total of nine districts of Assam had been shortlisted for opening of the respective POPSKs.

Dibrugarh became the third district in the State to have a POPSK after Mangaldai and Silchar, he added. Tsering also informed that efforts would be made to receive around 50 applications at the Dibrugarh POPSK on a daily basis. However, one cannot apply for Diplomatic, Tatkal or similar other passports through the POPSK here, he clarified.
