Madrid, Oct 26: Real Madrid and Barcelo, after their respective wins over Celta de Vigo and Eibar, are leading the Spanish League with 21 points each.
Atletico de Madrid are just two points behind the two, after defeating Valencia.
The Rafa Benitez-maged Real Madrid has been in fine form this week despite the absence of James Rodriguez, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, and beat Celta 3-1 with an outstanding performance by keeper Keylor vas. Barcelo were in for a suprise as Eibar’s Borja Baston gave his team an early lead before Luis Suarez came to his team’s rescue with a hat-trick.
Sunday’s biggest battle, nonetheless, took place in Vicente Calderon where Atletico de Madrid defeated Valencia 2-1. Jackson Martinez and Yannnik Carrasco scored for Atletico.
Meanwhile, Levante’s 0-4 loss to Real Socieadad cost mager Lucas Alcaraz his job. Mexican Carlos Vela led the attack for Real Socieadad, together with Agirretxe and Asier Illarramendi, to bundle Levante to the bottom of the standings. A goalless draw between Las Palmas and Villarreal at Gran Caria kept Las Palmas in the relegation zone, at 6 points with Levante and Grada. IANS
