MANGALDAI, Sept 9: The Veeranga and ‘Black Panthers’ (Commando Battalion) of Assam Police, for the first time in Darrang district, won the hearts of the people, including the senior citizens, women and members of the younger generation, with the excellent performance of attractive drills and motor cycle stunts. This is also for the first time that the Veeranga and the Black Panthers have displayed their daredevil performance outside Guwahati.
The Darrang Police, led by Superintendent of Police ShreejithThiraviam, had organized the day-long programme on Saturday as part of the pre-celebration of Assam Police Day scheduled on October 1. Despite the adverse weather and the wet playground of Mangaldai College, the skilled and experienced team of Assam Police out up an excellent performance which left the audience spell-bound and made all people present proud of the Assam Police.
Earlier, Director General of Police MukeshSahay iugurated the function by lighting a lamp in a traditiol way. Speaking on the occasion, he sought all cooperation from the people of the State in making the State Police a people-friendly force true to the sense. In recognition of the supreme sacrifice offered by four police personnel of the district while fighting against insurgency, the DGP offered hearty felicitation to the widows of the four martyrs in the function. In the function, he also offered felicitation to Superintendent of Police, Special Branch, DrDhanjoyGhawat who has been nomited for Chevening Scholarship by British Foreign and Commonwealth Office to undertake one-year postgraduate study. Additiol DGP KP Singhdeo and Dr. LR Bishnoi, DIG of Northern Range LachitBarua, legislators Guru Jyoti Das and BindaSaikia and several other senior officials of State police and district administration also attended the function.
In the function well anchored by eminent singer PranjalSarma, Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman in his speech offered the Assam Police gratitude on behalf of the people of the district for organizing such a function to showcase the talents and skills mixed with bravery and courage of the daughters of Assam employed in Assam Police ‘Veeranga’ and hoped that the younger generation would be motivated, encouraged and inspired to find a career in Assam Police. The musical band performance by the students of DonBosco, Bengtalalso earned applause from the people.
