GUWAHATI: AIUDF president and Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal requested President Droupadi Murmu to declare flood and erosion of Assam a national problem.
Ajmal sent a letter to Rashtrapati Bhawan to this effect. Ajmal said in the letter, "I have the honour to draw your kind attention towards the fact that Assam has been witnessing the havoc and disaster created by 'flood and erosion' almost every year, including this year. This perennial phenomenon is pushing Assam to the brink of total backwardness. I have been demanding the Central Government declare the flood and erosion of Assam as a national calamity since 2009. I also requested the Centre to announce a special package for helping the flood-affected people of Assam, besides finding a permanent solution for the flood. Unfortunately, nothing has been done so far in this regard. I earnestly request your kind honour to kindly pass instructions to the Central Government to declare flood and erosion of Assam as national calamity before or during your scheduled Assam visit."
The President of India is bound for Assam to inaugurate the newly constructed Dhubri Medical College & Hospital on October 12, 2022.
