277 people enrolled their names for disability certificates at BPGH, Pasighat

PASIGHAT: AS many as 277 people on Thursday enrolled their names as PwD (Person with Disability) after thorough medical check-up by the medical board during one day UDID enrollment-cum-assessment camp held at the Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH) near here. The camp was organized by the UDID Cell, Directorate of the Health Services, Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The camp was formally inaugurated by the East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu.

The DC handed over UDID cards and certificates and also wheelchairs, hearing aids and walking sticks etc., to the enrolled beneficiaries on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, he said that the district administration in collaboration with the health department had arranged this special camp in the hospital where specialist doctors would examine the level of disability and would recommend for certificate and UDID. "Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities project is being implemented with a view of creating a National Database for PwDs, and to issue a Unique Disability Identity Card to each person with disabilities" he said.

The project would not only encourage transparency, efficiency and ease of delivering the Government benefits to the person with disabilities, but also would ensure uniformity, he added.

State Nodal Officer, UDID, Dr Dampak Mindo briefed on the importance and necessities of UDID card and certificate.

He informed that disabled persons would avail pension, transport concession in Government buses and trains and could apply for job quota, admission in various medical and engineering colleges etc.
