ITANAGAR: Twenty eight more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, pushing the virus tally in the State to 64,341, a senior Health Department official said here on Wednesday.

Of the fresh cases, nine were registered in the Capital Complex Region, three from Lower Subansiri, two each from Anjaw, Changlang, Lohit, Longding, Lower Siang and Namsai, while West Siang, West Kameng, Upper Siang and East Siang reported one case each, the official said.

As many as 63,799 people recuperated from the disease in the State thus far, including 49 on Tuesday, he said.

The death toll in the State remained at 296, as no casualty due to the infection was reported in the past 24 hours, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

Arunachal Pradesh currently has 246 active COVID-19 cases, the official said.

The recovery rate among patients marginally improved to 99.16 per cent from 99.12 per cent, the previous day.

Among the fresh cases, 19 were detected through rapid antigen tests, four through RT-PCR process and five through TrueNAT methods, Jampa said, adding that 14 of them have developed COVID-19 symptoms.

The Capital Complex Region, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active cases at 45, followed by Twang at 23, Namsai (22), West Kameng and Dibang Valley at 21 each and Lower Subansiri and Lohit with 19 cases each.

A total of 12,61,118 samples have been tested for the infection in the State so far, including 586 on Tuesday, Jampa said, adding that the positivity rate marginally increased to 4.77 per cent from 4.23 per cent, the previous day.

State Immunization Officer (SIO) Dr Dimong Padung said as many as 16,29,760 people have been inoculated with COVID-19 vaccines so far.

At least 77,338 beneficiaries in the age group of 15-18 years have been vaccinated and 22,462 senior citizens received the booster jab.
