4 peddlers held, heroin seized in Naharlagun

ITANAGAR: Narcotic substances weighing 243.71 gm, believed to be heroin, were seized and four people have been arrested after a series of raids, capital police said on Thursday.

Responding to information on March 15, a Naharlagun Sub-Division police team chased a vehicle up to Papunallah on the stretch of NH-415 in Naharlagun and arrested a local boy with eight tubes, weighing 10.72 gm, containing suspected heroin.

During the chase, Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, SI SS Jha and a few others received minor injuries and two civilian cars also received minor damages.

A case (Papuhill Police Station Case No-13/22 u/s 279/336/337/427/353 IPC r/w Sec-21(b)/27A/29 NDPS Act) was registered.

Further, based on disclosures made by the arrested accused, three more suppliers were arrested from the Naharlagun and Hollongi area after a successful series of raids.

The raids were carried out by a police team led by DSP Dekio Gumja, SDPO NLG, Inspector Khiksi Yangfo, Inspector Damgen Dulom, SI SS Jha, CT Kanto Samyor, CT Sandeep Yadav, CT Lham Tashi, CT Debojit Borah, CT Lucky Tacho, and L/CT K.Sumnyan under the close supervision of SP Jimmy Chiram.

The arrested peddlers have been identified as Amir Ali (28), a resident of Sonapur, Bihpuria, Assam. He was arrested from Barapani, Naharlagun with three packets of suspected heroin weighing 94.64 gm.

Ali's interrogation led to the arrest of Anil Basumatary alias Bhaity (34), a native of Jorabar under Gohpur, Biswanath, Assam, and Kirod Islary (32) of Bikrampur, Gohpur, Biswanath. The duo was arrested from Rajgor, Hollongi while carrying 138.35 gm of suspected heroin.

"A total of four arrests have been made in the case and 243.73 gm of suspected heroin seized. These arrests will be useful for the capital police to check the drug flow into the State capital," a press release issued by the capital police said. Meanwhile, SP Jimmy Chiram lauded the efforts of the police team in making the arrests and warned drug peddlers and suppliers to stay away from ICR.
