ITANAGAR: The All Yachuli Students' Union (AYSU) has demanded of the State Government for early declaration of 'Keyi-Panyor' as a separate district by bifurcating the existing Lower Subansiri district.
Addressing reporters at the Press Club here on Monday, AYSU president Baath Tolu said that the existing Lower Subansiri district consists of Nyishi and Apatani people, and the two community have been living in peace and harmony for years now.
However, Ziro being the headquarter of the Lower Subansiri district is well developed with most of the administrative infrastructures in the area, and is occupied by the Apatani community, depriving 16th Yachuli constituency areas of the Nyishi community.
"Therefore, we demand for Keyi-Panyor as new district for development of the Nyishi community and its area," he said.
He informed that even the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) has raised this matter and submitted all required documents for the process of Keyi-Panyor district bifurcation with the State Government. Unfortunately, it seems that all documents are put in cold storage as the State Government has not addressed on the matter till date.
"It was known through some sources that the bifurcation of Keyi Panyor district was supposed to be announced on the occasion of 'Celebration for 50 years of Arunachal Pradesh' at Ziro in January last, but the Government did not make any such announcement," Tolu said.
He also said that the union still believes that the State Government will address the demand as the Chief Minister Pema Khandu himself had assured to look into the matter during his visit to Yazali for Nyokum celebration.
He also appealed the two MLAs of the constituency to work in favour of the people of the district by discussing the matter during the State Assembly session
AYSU has approached the All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU) seeking help as the State Government has never addressed the issue even after submission of several representations.
"The union will go for democratic movements if the State Government fails to address its demand," Tolu informed.
