ITANAGAR: Demanding justice for the Hathras victim and her family, the Congress in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday organised a 'silent protest' at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan here, "against the pitiless actions and arbitrary act of the Uttar Pradesh government".

Participating in the protest, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Nabam Tuki said that the recent incident of rape and murder of a girl at Hathras in Uttar Pradesh has shaken the consciousness of every citizen in the country.

He condemned "the brazen acts of inhumanity perpetrated on the victim by the culprits and the shameless actions from the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in the State which pained people across the country", he said.

"On October 1 last, the UP government in a brazen act of highhandedness and despotism prevented the delegation led by former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party leaders from meeting the victim's family," Tuki said.

"Even media persons were not allowed to go to the vicinity of the victim's village. Most shockingly, the Congress delegation was stopped at the UP border and the police manhandled Rahul Gandhi in a most heinous way and arrested him and Priyanka along with other leaders," the senior Congress MLA said.

Tuki added that even police brutally lathi-charged the Congress party workers and other party functionaries who tried to meet the victim's family.
