ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) has stressed on the need for the society to ensure that marriage registration is done. This was the topic during the daylong workshop on 'Legal Awareness-cum-Marriage Registration' organized for the officers and staff at Yupia recently.
Chairing the programme, Deputy Commissioner PigeLigu lauded APLSLSA for taking such an initiative. He said that the officers need such kind of legal awareness-orientation programmes to keep themselves updated on the latest legal developments.
He also emphasized that marriage-recording data should be maintained properly by the Department of Economics & Statistics and the data should be reflected in the district handbooks also.
As the resource person, advocate RaknuKoniya gave a presentation on the 'Arunachal Pradesh Marriage Recording Act-2008' and the 'Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme-2011'. She briefed the house in detail about the 'APMR Act-2008' and its implications, as well as the legal and compensation benefits under the APVCS-2011.
Sharing her experiences of working under APSLSA, she said that APSLSA has been conducting legal awareness programmes on such issues across the State, adding that during such interactions, it has come to light that "masses' knowledge on marriage registration and its benefits are lacking in our tribal societies". She added, "Therefore, we need to create more awareness and deliberations on the benefits of marriage registration for all stakeholders in the society."
