ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra on Sunday extended his greetings to the people of the State, especially to the Singpho community, on the auspicious occasion of Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi. He expressed hope that the sacred occasion will usher in harmonious coexistence and socio-cultural growth of the society.
In his message, the Governor said that Shapawng Yawng Manau Poi, with its rituals, songs, dances, cultural programmes, community feasts, literary activities and interaction sessions, has become a medium in preserving the tribal heritage.
"I call upon the Singpho elders and the youths alike to promote this event in the State and abroad. Let us further strengthen our traditions, culture and carry it forward to cement the bonding in our fold," he said in his message.
"On this auspicious occasion, I join my Singpho people in offering prayers to invoke Shapawng Yawng for the blessings for each one of us and grant us peace, progress and prosperity," he added. Sharing his concern about the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor urged the people to observe the festival at home and eschew mass congregations.
"For the safety and well-being of our fellow citizens, let us follow the anti-COVID-19 protocols. With the people's cooperation we shall succeed in checking the deadly coronavirus disease infection," he added.
