ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh's Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) Minister Alo Libang inaugurated the first integrated Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) and Telemedicine installed at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Itafort near here on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters, Libang said that the HMIS and the Telemedicine system should benefit the public and not just be a showpiece. He said that the system is to help those people in remote areas to consult the doctors. Therefore, the system should serve the purpose.

He said now the people residing in the remotest part of the district can now avail the facility easily. The system will allow patients and doctors to access their medical history and accordingly get medical assistance online.

"The people in the district can connect through the system which will be connected to TRIHMS and also other medical services in the country. It will also serve as a medical record keeper, which will help the doctors as well as patients for future health checkups at any hospitals in the State," he said.

He said the department will soon send more such machines to the district so that people can avail the benefit.

On the sidelines, Libang also said that the condition of the PHC is pathetic. Hence, the department will work on to renovate the building at the earliest. He even said that there was a proposal to replace the existing building with a multi-storey building which could not be executed due to the less area, apparently due to the illegal encroachment.

Meanwhile, CEO-B4B IT Solution Suresh Singh said that HMIS is a part of Digital India, where the effort is to make medical information accessible to the doctors through smart cards. He said that Arunachal Pradesh is among the six States where the Government of India has allocated HMIS, which is a flagship programme all over the country.

He said that as of now the system has been installed in 226 locations and the plan is to install another 100 in coming months.

"The machine will be primarily installed in PHC and CHC with internet connectivity. For those, where there is no Internet facility, the company will provide alternatives," he said.

He also said that the system will not only connect the PHC and CHC to TRIHMS but hospitals in Assam and other big hospitals like AIIMS, New Delhi.

The programme was organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Health Society (APSHS) under National Health Mission (NHM) and attended by Guruk Pordung, advisor to Health Minister, Principal Secretary H&FW Sharat Chuahan and medical official.
