Guwahati: The COVID-19 frontline workers of the remote Yomcha sub-division under Liromoba constituency of Arunachal Pradesh were in for a pleasant surprise when the local youths banded together to build shelters for them.

As a gesture of goodwill towards the frontline workers, the people of Yomcha in West Siang district have voluntarily started constructing huts near the check gate here for the convenience of the medical teams, the police, the frontline workers and the youth volunteers. This was undertaken under the initiative of the Yomcha ADC Hento Karga.

The people of Yomcha subdivision, in a bid to make the lives of the frontline workers easier, have started voluntarily assisting them in their day-to-day tasks ever since the lockdown was brought into effect at the fag end of March 2020.

Youths, including school students, of the Yomcha subdivision, have been acting as volunteers to support the police and the medical teams ever since the lockdown started in March. These volunteers have also helped the frontline workers keep a track of the inward and outward movement of people in the subdivision.

Taking note of their efforts, Sirurijo Tea Estate owner Tugo Gangkak, a prominent businessman of the community, donated Rs 10,000 in appreciation of the residents' effort. A similar check gate is operational in the Darak circle, where the people coming from Covid-19-affected areas are strictly checked.
