Arunachal Pradesh border roads to get a boost; Senior govt official

Itanagar: The deck has been cleared to speed up the process of constructing strategic road in the border areas in Arunachal Pradesh, a senior government official informed here on Friday.

All roads to border areas of the State are of strategic importance and the government has attached top priority for which timelines have been fixed to speed up the process, State Land Mmanagement Secretary Dr Sonal Swaroop informed.

Swaroop's statement came after threadbare discussion on issues relating to land acquisition, forest clearance, allocation of quarries and joint surveys in all border districts during a video conferencing from Project Arunanak headquarters here, with Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Director General Lt Gen Harpal Singh and State Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar along with other officials on Thursday.

The Secretary, during the video conference, was accompanied by BRO Project Arunank Chief Engineer Brig A S Chonker, official sources informed here.

When the BRO DG highlighted about the ongoing construction of strategic highways and bridges in the State despite labour crisis due to prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, the Chief Secretary assured all possible cooperation to give a new impetus to border road construction for achieving the expected results, Dr Swaroop disclosed.

Reiterating BRO's motto 'everything is achievable through hardwork', Project Arunank chief engineer Brig Chonker hinted that works were suffering due to Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Swaroop said that it has been resolved to solve those crisis with due sincerity.

During the video conference, all ongoing infrastructure projects including roads to border areas by the BRO were reviewed, the Secretary informed.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had reviewed the projects during a meeting held at New Delhi on July 7 last.
