Arunachal Pradesh: CBI Files Case in APPSC Question Paper Leakage Scam

ITANAGAR: On Thursday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a case in the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission's (APPSC) recruitment exam question paper leak scam.

The central investigating agency stated in a release that a teacher connected to an Itanagar coaching centre and unidentified APPSC officials were the targets of the case.

The complaint concerns a purported question paper leak that occurred during the written test for the position of assistant engineer (civil), which was administered by the APPSC on August 26 and 27.

The case was opened as a result of a request from the Arunachal Pradesh government and subsequent notification from the Centre shifting the investigation of the case opened by the state police to the CBI last month.

According to a press release from the CBI, "the complainant (a candidate) has said that the accused (the teacher) was in possession of questions for the said examination indicating paper leaks by him in connivance with unknown personnel of APPSC."

A CBI team is in Itanagar conducting additional research on the case.

Nine people were detained for their alleged involvement in the recruitment exam question paper leak after a police report was filed.

The state administration made the decision to turn the case over to the CBI in September "for a free, fair, impartial, and quick investigation."

The administration asked the Centre once earlier this month to pass the case along to the CBI. The Centre, in turn, directed the CBI to take over the case.

Additionally, the APPSC decided to postpone all scheduled exams for recruitment into various government departments of Arunachal Pradesh.

In connection with the paper leak case, the state government this month suspended APPSC Secretary Jayanta Kumar Ray and Joint Secretary and Exam Controller Suraj Gurung.

Additionally, earlier this month, Nipo Nabam, the chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), resigned from his position due to moral considerations, taking responsibility for the leak.
