ITANAGAR: A remote circle in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China, has created a record of sort with all the persons in the age group of 45 years above have been administered COVID-19 vaccine, a district official said on Thursday. Mogto circle under Jang subdivision is the first circle in the district to fully covered by the first dose of the vaccine till Wednesday, Circle Officer Dorjee Wangchu informed.
The CO informed that a team from Mogto primary health centre (PHC) and the administration went door to door, to convince the people to get vaccinated, as many of the villagers were not turning up for vaccination as they are being engaged in farming and yak rearing at remote herds.
"Many villagers did not turn up because of suffering from motion sickness on their journey by vehicle to the vaccination sites," the CO said.
Wangchu added that except one person from Khyed Village and two from Mogto village under the circle could not be inoculated due to refusal and medical reasons while the rest of the persons above 45 years of age received the first jab.
As per the data provided by medical officer Dr Jiarul Haque, a total of 614 persons above 45 years in the circle, have been inoculated with the first dose of Covishield vaccine out of which 295 also received the second dose. The Tawang district is under lockdown since May 17 last which would continue till June 7.
The district administration and health authorities are working on war footing to stop the spread of the virus through contact tracing, testing and treating those who are infected and isolating them. During the lockdown period, rapid screening and vaccination drive are being carried out, especially those under the 45 plus age category at every village and circle level.
