ITANAGAR: Highlighting the transformative power of social media and its impact on governance, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday emphasised the need to use it for judicious purposes. Participating in the ‘Social Media Volunteers Meet’, organised by the state unit of the BJP, Khandu encouraged the people to view social media as a tool for both information and entertainment—a concept he termed ‘infotainment.’ The chief minister also advocated for smart social media usage. He also shared insights on the changing communication landscape and underscored the evolution of communication methods and the crucial role of social media in modern times.

Khandu lauded the organisers for their thoughtful initiative and stressed the significance of portraying Arunachal Pradesh’s beauty on social platforms to dispel misconceptions. He cited examples of global leaders using social media effectively and discussed the Digital India initiative, promoting transparency and efficiency in governance. The chief minister also encouraged the citizens to share grievances through social media platforms for prompt solutions and urged optimism while criticising the government, fostering growth and improvement. “Social media, a dynamic digital tapestry, connects individuals globally, shaping opinions and fostering communication. Its influence extends from personal interactions to political landscapes, creating a virtual agora of ideas and expression,” the chief minister said.

Navigating its vast terrain requires a nuanced understanding, balancing information, entertainment, and responsible engagement, he added. Khandu urged the participants in the meet to register as Viksit Bharat ambassadors using a provided QR code, ensuring public awareness of government schemes and initiatives. In September last year, the BJP’s state social media team, led by Sange T. Thungon, successfully conducted district-wise training programmes across the state. Deputy chief minister Chowna Mein, the party’s state president Biyuram Wahge, ministers, and MLAs attended the event, among others.
