ITANAGAR: Three Army personnel tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, raising the State's infection tally to 177, an official said on Sunday. The three new cases were detected from the quarantine facility in West Kameng district on Saturday, State Surveillance Officer L Jampa said.

"All of them had recently returned to the State and were in quarantine facilities. They are asymptomatic and have been admitted to COVID Care Centres," he said.

Two military personnel had returned from Uttar Pradesh and the other was a returnee from Andhra Pradesh, Dr Jampa said.

On Saturday, five persons including four from the worst-affected Changlang district and one from Namsai were released after being cured.

With the fresh cases, Arunachal has now 122 actives cases, while 54 people have recovered from the disease. A woman from West Kameng district died of the infection.

Changlang is the worst-hit district with 52 active cases, followed by the Itanagar Capital Complex (35) and West Kameng (12).

The first case in the State was reported in April 2 after a 31-year-old man tested positive for the disease following his return from a religious congregation in Delhi. He was discharged from a hospital on April 16.

After almost six weeks, the State had registered its second case on May 24, after a student who had returned from Delhi tested positive for the disease.
