Arunachal Pradesh IAC approves guidelines for financial assistance to indigenous festivals

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Affairs Council (APIAC) has approved the guidelines framed by the special committee headed by Prof Tana Showren (member APIAC) for distribution of financial assistance for celebration of indigenous festivals of the state, besides approving the list of festivals of various communities to be notified in the official Gazette.

The 'development' took place during the second meeting of APIAC, held at the convention hall of the Department of Indigenous Affairs (DIA) under the chairmanship of Education Minister Taba Tedir, who also holds the portfolios of Cultural Affairs & Indigenous Affairs.

Taking serious note of the formation of multiple priest associations, the APIAC suggested the priest fraternity to form a single unified priest association within three months. The Council also recommended fixation of priest honorarium in two categories and also "agreed" to include the Bonpu/Bonpa (the indigenous priest of the Monpas) as the beneficiaries. Further, the Council also approved the adoption of a policy for the establishment of indigenous Gurukuls in the state. Secretary Indigenous Affairs Pige Ligu and Director Sokhep Kri also spoke on the occasion.
