ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) has invoked Section 20 (1) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, vide a judgement dated May 15 and imposed a penalty to the tune of Rs 25,000 on Deli Kambu, executive engineer of the Rural Works Department at Likabali in Lower Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The penalty was imposed in connection with appeal n. APIC-684/2022 for neglecting and refusing to furnish information to appellant Ijip Taso and defying the directions of the Commission, a press release informed here on Thursday.
The Commission directed the officer to deposit the penalty amount in favour of the Registrar, APIC, on or before June 1. Kambu has also been directed to appear before the court of Sonam Yudron, State Information Commissioner, on June 1, along with a deposited copy of the Treasury challan, including the information sought by the appellant. In case of his failure to comply with the order, the Commission shall invoke Section 20(2) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, the release said.
In an appeal, the Commission had also imposed a penalty of Rs 25,000 on Kaku Pangia, RWD executive engineer of Chayangtajo, in East Kameng district, for violation of Section 7 (1) of the RTI Act, 2005. Meanwhile, hearings of appeal for 19 cases by the commission, which were fixed for May 12 before the court of Genom Tekseng, have been postponed due to unavoidable situations. The cases are rescheduled for hearing on June 8, the release added.
