Arunachal Pradesh logs 480 new COVID-19 cases, four casualties

ITANAGAR: The Covid-19 caseload in Arunachal Pradesh rose to 45,188 with 480 more people tested positive for the infection, a senior health official said here on Saturday.

The death toll in the frontier state increased to 212 after four more persons from Tawang, Lohit, Changlang and Upper Subansiri districts, succumbed to the infection in the past two days, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

All the patients with comorbidities, died while undergoing treatment at various health facilities of the state, the official said.

The Capital Complex Region registered the highest number of fresh cases at 119, followed by Lower Subansiri (44), East Siang (37), Papumpare (35), Tawang (34), West Kameng (31), Lohit (25), Upper Subansiri (23), Lower Siang and Leparada with 17 cases each, the official said.

Sixteen new cases were also reported from West Siang, 14 from Namsai, 11 from Changlang, ten from Anjaw, eight from Tirap, seven each from Longding and Lower Dibang Valley, six from Siang, five from East Kameng, three each from Kra Daadi, Kurung Kumey and Upper Siang, two each from Shi-Yomi and Kamle and one from Pakke Kessang, he said.

Among the fresh cases, 446 were detected through rapid antigen tests, 14 through RT-PCR and 20 by TrueNat methods, the SSO said adding, 201 people have symptoms.

The active cases in the state now stand at 4,357, he said.

As many as 517 patients were cured of the disease on Friday taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 40,619, Jampa said.

The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stand at 89.89 per cent while the active percentage stands at 9.64 and the positivity rate at 6.93 per cent, the official said.

The Capital Complex Region - comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas - has the highest number of active cases at 1,118, followed by Papumpare (319), Lohit (315), Lower Subansiri (311), West Kameng (264) and East Siang at 245 cases.

Altogether, 8,91,205 samples have been tested for Covid-19 in the state so far, including 6,921 on Friday, Jampa said.

Meanwhile, State Immunisation Officer (SSO) Dr Dimong Padung informed that a total of 8,16,196 people have been administered Covid-19 vaccine doses so far in the state since the inoculation drive began in January this year.

Meanwhile, the state government keeping in view the rise in infection, has advised for adoption of additional measures like extension of curfew hours in nine districts which have recorded coronavirus positivity rate of more than 10 per cent in the past week.

Among the nine districts, Kurung Kumey recorded a coronavirus positivity rate of 21.1 per cent in the past week, followed by the Capital Complex Region (15.9), Tawang and Kamle with 13.1 per cent, Lohit (12.9), Siang (12.2), Longding (11.9), Kra Daadi (10.7) and Dibang Valley with ten per cent respectively.

Accordingly, curfew timing in the nine districts has been extended from 3 pm to 5 am which will come into force from July 25.
