ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) so far has registered 86 FIRs and arrested 143 people in connection to drug consumption and drug trafficking, which is the highest as compared to the last year's figure.

These arrests were made post the annual conference of SsP/Cos held under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu at Tawang on April 19. However, the figures are much less in the corresponding period of 2020. The police registered a total of 28 cases while arresting 56 people from January to June 2020.

Addressing the reporters at Police officers mess, Chimpu near here on Tuesday, Home Minister Bamang Felix poured anguish over the increasing involvement of APP personnel in the consumption and trade of narcotic substances. He said the police department is committed to eradicating the drug menace to ensure a drug-free State.
