Arunachal Pradesh reports 154 new COVID cases, two more deaths

ITANAGAR: The number of Covid-19 cases in Arunachal Pradesh has significantly decreased in the past one week, while 154 more people testing positive for the infection, pushing the virus caseload to 50,070, a senior health official said here on Monday.

The death toll in the north-eastern State increased to 242 with two more persons succumbing to the infection on Sunday, he said. A 50-year-old man from Lower Subansiri died at his residence due to Covid Pneumonia while another person of 55 years age from East Siang died at Assam Medical College Hospital at Dibrugarh in neighbouring Assam due to severe Covid infection, State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa said.

The Capital Complex Region recorded the highest number of new cases at 52, followed by West Kameng (28), Lohit (25), Lower Subansiri (13), Papumpare (10), Changlang (7), Tawang and East Siang at five cases each, East Kameng (4), Leparada (3), Lower Dibang Valley and Lower Siang with one case each, the official said.

Among the fresh cases, 142 were detected through rapid antigen tests, 11 through RT-PCR and one by TrueNat methods, the official said adding, 40 people were with symptoms. The active cases in the state now stand at 2,680, he said. As many as 345 patients were cured of the disease on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries in the State to 47,148, Jampa said. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the State stands at 94.16 per cent while the active percentage stands at 5.35 and the positivity rate at 4.72 per cent, the official said.

The Capital Complex Region - comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas - has the highest number of active cases at 731, followed by Lower Subansiri (339), Papumpare (230), West Kameng (185), Lohit (156) and East Siang at 122 cases. Altogether, 9,75,916 samples have been tested for Covid-19 in the State so far, including 3,261 on Sunday, Jampa said.

Meanwhile, State Immunization Officer (SSO) Dr Dimong Padung informed that a total of 8,80,053 people have been administered Covid-19 vaccine doses so far in the State since the inoculation drive began in January this year.
