Arunachal Pradesh reports 266 new COVID-19 cases, three deaths

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh in the past few days recorded a dip in fresh COVID-19 cases while the number of recoveries has increased, said State Surveillance Officer (SSO) Dr Lobsang Jampa here on Sunday.

Of late, the north-eastern State has reported 266 fresh infections which, pushed the virus tally to 48,122. The death toll in the frontier State increased to 229 with three more persons, including two female, succumbed to the infections on Saturday.

A 13-year-old COVID-19 positive girl from the Capital Complex Region died at the Dedicated COVID Hospital (DCH) Chimpu near here, due to acute respiratory distress syndrome with Covid Pneumonia, while another 70 years old lady from Longding died at DCH Pasighat in East Siang district due to COVID Pneumonia, the official said.

A man of 39 years age from Papumpare district died on way to hospital due to Covid Pneumonia, added the SSO.

Of the fresh cases, the Capital Complex Region registered the highest number at 74, followed by Lower Subansiri (34), Papumpare (27), West Siang (18), Lower Dibang Valley (15), West Kameng and Tawang at 12 each, Leparada and Lohit at nine each and Dibang Valley with eight new cases.

A total of seven fresh infections were also reported from Kamle, six each from East Siang, Namsai and Upper Siang, four each from Changlang, Lower Siang and Upper Subansiri, three from Tirap, two each from Anjaw, Siang and Pakke Kessang and one each from Shi Yomi and Longding district respectively.

Among the fresh cases, 240 were detected through rapid antigen tests, one through RT-PCR and 25 by TrueNat methods, the official said adding, 107 people were symptomatic.

The active cases in the State now stand at 3,954. As many as 451 patients were cured of the disease on Saturday taking the total number of recoveries in the state to 43,939. The recovery rate among coronavirus patients in the state stand at 91.31 per cent while the active percentage stands at 8.22 and the positivity rate at 5.07 per cent.

The Capital Complex Region -- comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas -- has the highest number of active cases at 1,060, followed by Lower Subansiri (336), Papumpare (317), Lohit (257) and West Kameng at 251 cases.

Altogether, 9,38,932 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the State so far, including 5,237 on Friday, added Jampa.

Meanwhile, State Immunisation Officer (SSO) Dr Dimong Padung informed that a total of 8,54,772 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccine doses so far in the State since the inoculation drive began in January this year.
