BORDUMSA: In a tragic road accident that occurred here on Sunday morning near the Dirok-Hunjan area along the Assam-Arunachal border on NH-52 in the Tinsukia district, a driver of Arunachal Pradesh State Transport died while around 15 onboard passengers along with a staff were reported safe.
The on-duty government driver identified as Md. Shahjahan Ali (46) was driving the passengers from Arunachal’s Diyun to Tinsukia in the state transport bus bearing registration number ARX 0434. According to eye witness, the incident occurred while the driver of the passenger bus colliding partially with a load carrier mini truck heading in the wrong direction, hit a nearby tree in a bid to save the pedestrians on the highway and the on-board passengers.
The accident took place in the Bordirok-Hunjan area in the Tinsukia district close to the Assam-Arunachal Dirok border gate. Although he was rushed to a nearby Assam’s hospital, the brave driver breathed his last on the way.
Well known locally as ‘Ali da’, the deceased was popular among the people of Diyun for his generous and easy-going nature. He had served the agrarian people of Diyun circle for more than 20 years as driver of the government transport. The unexpected demise of Ali da has cast a pall on the people of Diyun in the Changlang district.
Local MLA Somlung Mossang, while interacting with this reporter, expressed deep regret at the loss of life and said that the employee had embraced a heroic death while saving the onboard passengers and people on the road. “I offer my prayers and condolence for the bereaved family members,” the legislator added.
The deceased is survived by his wife and two minor children.
