ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly condemned the arrest of Rajya Sabha member and party spokesperson Sanjay Singh. Singh was arrested on Wednesday evening by the Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy case. “The Narendra Modi-led BJP government is putting all efforts to suppress the voice of the people,” AAP state unit general secretary Toko Nikam said in a statement. He said the BJP has forgotten that India is a democratic country. There are a number of cases pending against persons related to the BJP but they are protected by the BJP government. “No government agency is initiating any action against them,” he said. Nikam added that in the alleged liquor scam case, investigation has been going on for almost 15 months. “During this period, 1000 places have been raided,” Nikam claimed, adding that several people have been arrested.

The party’s general secretary also claimed that people have been tortured in custody but not a single penny has been recovered so far. Accusing the BJP leaders of playing dirty politics and of being autocratic, he said nothing was found from Singh’s house after 10 hours of search. Claiming that the family members are also not aware of the reason for Singh’s arrest, the party said Singh was arrested due to fear of losing elections by the BJP.
