ITANAGAR: Arunachalee mountaineer Yashi Yangjom has achieved a rare feat by conquering the Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.

Yangjom achieved her feat of scaling the Mount Everest on May 11 last at 6 AM, official sources informed here on Friday.

Hailing from Lubrang Village under Dirang circle of West Kameng district, Yangjom is presently serving as an instructor at Dirang-based National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS).

"She is the ninth instructor from NIMAS to have successfully climbed the world's highest peak in a span of three years," Institute's Director Col Sarfraz Singh said.

The other Arunachalee climbers who scaled the highest peak include, Tapi Mra (2009), Tine Mena (2011), Anshu Jamsenpa (2011), Nima Lama (2011), Kalden Paljor (2011), Tame Bagang (2013), Kishon Tekseng and Taka Tamut (2018).

Anshu Jamsenpa became the fastest woman to do a double summit of the Everest in 118 hours and 15 minutes in 2017, while also holding the record for a total of five summits to the tallest peak by an Indian woman.

Meanwhile, state Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have congratulated Yangjom for scaling the world highest mountain.

The governor termed the occasion as one of the proud moments for people of the state.

The governor said that by conquering Mount Everest, Yangjom has proved that the daughters of Arunachal Pradesh are tough, courageous, adventurous, enterprising and meritorious.

He said that her achievement will motivate other youths of the state to excel in their chosen field.

Dr Mishra also commended NIMAS for the accomplishment of Yangjom, who is an instructor at the institute. He said that the institute has achieved its objective of spotting talented youth and facilitating them in achieving the pinnacle of mountaineering.

The governor added that Yangjom as a youth icon must now work for creating awareness against Covid-19 pandemic in the state.

Khandu also congratulated Yangjom for her rare feat.

"Congratulations Ms Tashi Yangjom for scaling Mt. Everest and becoming the first Indian lady climber to Summit Everest this Season. Regular Training at @DirangNimas has made her a strong mountaineer with blitzkrieg speed. She becomes the ninth climber from NIMAS to scale Everest," Khandu tweeted.
