Bridge collapses in Arunachal Pradesh's Siang, three missing

Three persons went missing when a vehicle they were travelling in, fell into the Siyom River after a bailey bridge collapsed at Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR: Three persons went missing when a vehicle they were travelling in, fell into the Siyom River after a bailey bridge collapsed at Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh Tuesday morning, a senior official from the district said.

The incident took place around 8:30 am when a dumper carrying boulders was crossing the Sanggam Bridge over NH-13 connecting Pangin and Boleng in the district, they said.

The three persons, who went missing include, Rahul Tamang (22), the driver of the vehicle, Ranjit Sutradhar (21), the handyman and Mitinga Bormo (19), a labourer, Deputy Commissioner Atul Tayeng informed.

Pangin-Boleng MLA Ojing Tasing accompanied by DC Tayeng, SP S Singpho and officials from BRO and others visited the spot.

An FIR has been lodged by BRO, while teams from NDRF and SDRF headed to the district via the Pasighat-Mariyang-Yingkiong route for search and rescue operations, Circle Officer Tenzin Yangki informed. The BRO OC informed that the construction of a new bridge would take two months adding, logistical data would be conveyed within two days to the higher authorities. Meanwhile, a road formation cutting leading to Pangin washed away on June 27 last which would take at least 15-20 days to open as new excavation is underway.
