ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh's Minister for Urban Development & Housing Kamlung Mossang unveiled a Bust of Mahatma Gandhi installed by the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) at the Bank Tinali near here on Thursday.

Speaking to the reporters, Mossang said that the unveiling of the Bust was to commemorate the 75th years of Indian Independence. He also informed that his department is taking up the entire restoration works caused due to natural calamities.

He said that the IMC falls under his department and it is working in channelizing matters concerning beautification, cleanliness etc. Moreover, the IMC has been playing an important role in the beautification of the State capital in all aspects, he added.

Meanwhile, IMC Mayor Tame Phassang said that this is the first step in the beautification of NH-415. Likewise, the department is also in works to provide basic amenities alongside the highway for the public use.

He said the prime objective is to provide toilet facilities alongside the highway for the women community.

"Usually there is no special fund for the IMC. There is special direction from the Central Government for beautification of the town. Therefore, the IMC commissioner came up with the idea to beautify the area with an amount of Rs 12 lakhs only," he said, while appreciating the commissioner.

When questioned about the lack of CC pavements in sectors, Phassang said that the work was already awarded to contractors by the PWD eight years ago. Nevertheless, the IMC is ensuring that no sector road is now constructed without proper drainage.

"The contractors have to be blamed for low quality of work and no initial work plan in the few incomplete sector roads. Such contractors' works should be canceled and be given to someone who can really do better execution," he said.
